Organic certification of both the
growing and textile transformation processes have been awarded to Peru Naturtex Partners
by severaly internationally recognized and accredited inspection organizations. No pesticides, herbicides, artificial growth
regulators, defoliants or other agro-chemicals have been used to grow or color these
products. All harvesting is done by hand, as it has been since the domestication of
cotton in Peru over 4,500 years ago.
In
a compact, coastal valley, geographically isolated some 500 kms from the nearest
conventional cotton production, organic tangüis cotton has been produced since 1995.
Here, yields of seed cotton have reached as high as 5,000 kgs/ha, and on average some
2,500 kgs/ha, nearly 50% more than national yields on conventional cotton plots.Quality
levels are appreciably higher for Naturtex organic fiber, showing superior profiles for
length, strength, uniformity and whiteness when compared to both other organic as well as
conventional tangüis cottons from Peru.
Since 1997, two separate licenses have
been issued toNaturtex. One, 4235, covers organic fiber production, and the other,5051,
sustainable textile production, in compliance with the SKAL manual (Nov, 1999) for the
processing of natural fibers, and with the EU Directive No. 2092/91 governing organic
agricultural products.
All our fiber production,
manufacturing and processing services
are inspected by the Dutch foundation, Skal, owner of the prestigious EKO quality
symbol.
