A recent study by The New England Journal of Medicine looked at the presence of the SARS-CoV-2 virus in steel, cardboard, plastic, and copper. For the research, an aerosol dispensing device was used that simulated the drops created by coughing or sneezing and they verified how long the virus survived on different surfaces. The study revealed that SARS-CoV-2 remained viable two to three days later on the surface of stainless steel as well as on plastic. On cardboard, the contamination lasted up to 24 hours. While on the copper surface, the presence of the virus was not detected after four hours.
